From the Sept. 2007 Review of Mid-Range Accounting Systems
Since 1980, CYMA has been offering its financial management system to small and mid-sized businesses. Version 9 of CYMA contains numerous system enhancements designed to increase user productivity.
Ease of Use/Transaction Entry -- 5 Stars
The CYMA user interface uses the web-enabled eDESK to access all installed modules, allowing users to customize CYMA to suit their business needs. It also offers access to designated websites, data from other systems, and the ability to link to other functions within CYMA.
The main user interface features a drop-down menu that provides access to system functions. Clicking on “File” allows users to switch modules or companies. Available functions are updated when the module is changed. The Setup Checklists can be used when setting up a new company. Once the item has been completed, a red checkmark will appear to the right of the item.
CYMA uses a batch system for posting transactions. Batches can be reviewed and edited prior to posting. Data-entry screens are logically designed, with dialog boxes throughout the data-entry screens that notate required fields, drop-down lists and option boxes. Tabs are also listed in logical order and lead to additional data-entry screens. Users can choose their preferred data-entry method: Standard, Keypad or the Speed Entry method, which skips over unnecessary fields when entering data.
Modules & Notable Features -- 4.5 Stars
CYMA’s modular structure allows for the purchase of modules as needed. Available modules include GL, AR, AP, Inventory Control, Job Costing, Payroll, Purchase Order, Sales Order and the required System Manager module. CYMA has the ability to support unlimited companies, and also offers unlimited user-defined fields. Account numbers can be up to 24 digits and can use up to 10 segments. The newest updates found in version 9 are designed to streamline data entry. Enhancements include the addition of “Quick” features such as Quick Budget Entry, Quick Vendor Entry and Quick Invoice Entry. Other notable features include updated user interface screens, the ability to purge inactive files, and a financial overview in the Job Cost module that displays costing data for each job. The Custom Data Designer aids with system customization by letting users easily add multiple user-defined fields throughout the program.
Integration/Import/Export -- 4.5 Stars
All of CYMA’s modules integrate seamlessly. As previously noted, additional modules can be added as needed. CYMA also interfaces with a large variety of vertical applications that offer human resource, timekeeping, fixed asset, and product shipping capabilities. The general import function allows for the creation of specific scripts when importing data into CYMA, and data can be exported to a variety of file formats, as well.
Reporting -- 5 Stars
Numerous standard reports are available in each of the CYMA modules. The interface with Crystal Reports and F9 provides excellent report customization and spreadsheet creation. Reports can be exported in numerous formats, including PDF, HTML, Excel, Word, ODBC, *.CSV, Text or XML. Various destinations can also be chosen for reports, such as application, disk file, exchange folder or MAPI. An export button allows for exporting reports by choosing the format desired.
